Just saw the trailer Mac. Looks like one to get hold of, especially given the subject matter. As you say, the increasing blind obediance of the public, to more or less whatever is demanded of them, is a truly worrying trend. But that said, I hope and believe that more and more people are beginning to see through the Emperor’s rather shoddy outfit.

Hi, I agree with you. We are the ones that can change ourselves and, after that, eventually, the world. I was only thinking that it’s a hard matter, and it is little bit easier to do that, learning something from people who fight the same inner battle in the past. I was speaking about hard practice, because mind is so smart… it always hide itself from real consciousness. It tell us a lot of lies… difficult to go trough.

Hi Niki.Thanks for the comment and recommendation. I myself have only dabbled a little with meditation and no, I’ve never been to a buddhist retreat. That said, La Doña Q is a big fan of yoga and regularly medidates. It’s certainly something I hope to explore in greater depth in the future.

I’ve read three or four of Krishnamurti’s books and, I agree, it’s not easy to take all his teachings on board. That said, what I like about his approach — and the reason why I decided to post the video — is the emphasis he places on self-exploration and self-determination. Too often we look for someone else to show us the way, to tell us how and what to think, when ultimately the radical change that is needed must come from deep within ourselves. Or at least that’s what I like to believe.

I always thought Krishnamurti little bit too romantic. You need at least a guide-line from practitioners of the past to change your mind, it is a pretty difficult task to get it without any guidance in one lifetime… Have you never tried a traditional buddhist retreat? It is very useful to understand the mind. How it never stop to chat, to run around, like a hamster in his wheel, how it defend itself from the changing and defends the bad habit in such a tricky way.
In a traditional retreat, if you are doing it properly, you can see that because you are left alone with your mind, and you have the techniques to bring it into the open. But to be able to do that, you need little bit of help.

I agree, Gerard, that we need to begin seriously questioning what it means to obey and why so many of us do so in such an unquestioning manner. What’s more, authority, like respect, should be earned and the further we plunge down our current slippery slope toward completely unaccountable governance, the less respect or authority our “representatives” deserve, yet the more power they wield over our lives. A truly dysfunctional scenario.
